What is a Keshi Pearl?
Pronounced like the word “Mesh” with an eeeeee on the end. A Japanese word also meaning poppy. What we see now in the market is a non-nucleated pearl that can range from paper thin to a nice fat thickness. I refer to the thin ones as having a “corn flake” look about them and the fat ones as a “soufflé” pearl. Yet another style is the “stick pearl”. The Keshi pearl is a really lovely and versatile pearl to use in a jewelry design. They have all the attributes of a round pearl including the iridescent sheen that we expect to see in a pearl of any kind. They can be dyed to a multitude of different colors, and the different drilling techniques, as with all pearls, give them a very unique flair for any design.
